I recently read an idea in a Book about HOPE…
Now bear with me, because I was also like “ugh don’t talk to me about hope, not when the fucking world feel’s like its gone to hell in a handbasket.”
(also what does that saying even mean?)
But I kept reading, and as a person who has continually looked for the ‘what else can I do’ version of problem solving, I’ve been feeling really fucking down about the state of the world. I mean ffs they legalised child AI porn in the US this week. I DONT NEED TO SAY ANYMORE.
Anyhow, the words that have been sitting with me I wanted to share with you too.
The idea that truth can hold us where in the past we held onto hope, you know the constant search for the ‘silver lining’ or things will ‘get better and work out well.
HI MILENNIAL FRIENDS 👋! Anyone else raised with an unhealthy dose of ‘you can do anything!’
Well this book says fuck that - I’m paraphrasing.
It says, what if True hope, instead of being the version we’ve been clinging to,
“the conviction that things will work out well”; instead is ‘ the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.”
I’m going to say that again,
‘that something makes sense.’
So little about the current world has felt like it makes sense, and yet this described so clearly what I have been feeling. A desperate need for things to make fucking sense. Because it just damn well doesn’t right now.
And I read this idea, sitting in that feeling and knowing others are also feeling it as a collective “What the Actual Fuck”, well it felt strangely somehow like relief.
Relief that I don’t have to find the ‘silver lining’ but perhaps instead, I could lean into something else. That I could lean into the desire to LIVE.
To live in the face of it all. (fights urge to break into Taylor swift song)
In the face of pain, of nonsense, of the truth that it is not fair, and more than a little bit fucked up.
That I could choose to Live, and that this radical choice to live truth is mine, and mine alone.
I wanted to share this with you all, not only because it felt seismic for me; but because in reading about the concept of truth, hope and the world being a lil' bit fucked, I felt a sense of my why returning.
That even if this is ‘the end times’ or if we have 60+ more years; whether tomorrow is guaranteed or not; we still get this one life. And even if it doesn’t ‘all work out’;
What do I want to do with my one precious and beautiful life?
What do I want to add more of, to the world?
My answer, was more joy, more kindness, more gratitude, and a sense of truth and peace. Knowing that it makes sense, that the world feels like its on fire right now, even if it isn’t the answer I want to hear. and that might not be within my control but the joy in the small and big moments is.
Being kind to other people because it feels good and because we all deserve kindness is. And gratitude for these very same moments; they are things I can hold onto.
How does it connect to what I do?
It feels so beautifully aligned to the work we do in our VIP group Joyride, and in the program Hotwire.
The truth of how your incredible brain works.
The truth that, this world wasn’t built for folks like us. That the system may never be fair for those of us with differences, but that it is the system, we have for now. That I can feel deep joy, gratitude and satisfaction in the life I have, in spite of the barriers before me.
That I cannot promise it will ‘all work out’ but I can help it make fucking sense.
And maybe just maybe, that is true hope.
To Understand. Knowledge is power after all.
If you want to know more about Hotwire, there’s a video here that goes into the WHY, and after (which if you do skip to the end I’ll never know 🤫) a button you can click on to view all the hotwire details.
